High School Resume Writing

Who says high school students don’t need a resume. Most of the high school students work during summer vacations; others work entire year while continue their studies. To get jobs and/or change jobs they too need a resume. Furthermore, many of the high schools these days require students who seek admissions in their schools to submit resumes in order to help themselves in assessing the interested students.

How a High School Resume is Written?

A high school resume is considered a professional and an effective resume only if it is written according to the following:

  • The high school resume is started by writing your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address all at the top. Make sure that the postal address you are writing there is your permanent residential address. Be careful about the email address of yours that you provide. It must not be sounding unprofessional. Something like hotone@whatever.com will, by no means, be considered as a professional email address. Standard format for an email address is FirstnameLastname@whatever.com
  • Next, mention your objective i.e. what is your goal. Employers and college recruiters like to know about the students’ main goals earlier in the resumes. Tailoring the objective as per the required job or college admission can be very effective.
  • After mentioning your objective, write a heading titled “Academic Qualifications” and write your educational information under it. Make sure that your GPA is included if you have it 3.0 or higher.

  • It is now the time to write another heading titled “Experience” and write whatever work experience you have mentioning the title of position, name of the organization, location of work, dates of employment, and description of your job responsibilities.
  • After writing the experience section, write another heading entitled “Extra Curricular Activities” and, as the name suggests, mention any or all of your extra curricular activities.

  • End your resume by giving one final heading “References.” In this section you are to give the names of the people, better be professionals, who know you properly. Don’t forget to ask their permissions first before giving their names out. The better text for this section would be comments of the working professionals about you. The profession, position, organization with signature and stamp of the working professionals, if also included in this section, would make your high school resume quite professional-looking.
